Ohio property tax
Ohio homes are taxed on 35% of their appraised value, at rates set by counties, cities, townships and school districts. The average effective rate is about 1.28% of market value, and 1.5%–2.5% is common in Cleveland, Columbus and Cincinnati suburbs with large school levies. Counties reappraise every six years with an update every three years, so a bill can jump after a reappraisal. Owner-occupied homes get a 2.5% owner-occupancy credit, and seniors and people with disabilities can apply for the homestead exemption.
