No income tax in Florida

The Florida Constitution prohibits a state income tax on individuals, so only federal income tax, Social Security and Medicare are withheld from your paycheck. There is no state disability insurance and no local income tax in Miami, Orlando, Tampa or Jacksonville. Florida's reemployment (unemployment) tax is paid by employers, not employees.

Florida raises money through a 6% sales tax plus local surtaxes, tourism taxes and property taxes. Homeowners should also budget for high insurance costs; try the Florida mortgage calculator.
